Pushing your strength limits can be hard, particularly when you run into frustrating setbacks like plateaus or limiting injuries. It can feel overwhelming and confusing knowing what to do and how to progress efficiently. With so much information out there it can feel impossible deciding where to best start.
At ONI, our powerlifting coaches make the complexities of programming simple for you. Our expert powerlifting coaches have helped hundreds of everyday people and ordinary gym goers increase their strength to new heights; and we can help you do the same.
Getting consistently stronger and breaking through plateaus, all while preventing injuries can be much easier than you think. Many beginner to intermediate lifters simply don’t know the correct programming steps to take and what micro or macro level adjustments they should make to optimise their training progression (which can look different for different people).
How long should your training blocks be? When should you taper or when should you peak? We take the time to figure that out with you so you can be confident that the effort you’re putting into training is consistently giving you the results you’re after.
You won’t just save time and energy either. During your training journey with us, you'll receive education and insights, equipping you with valuable skills necessary to not only achieve your strength goals but continuously progress from them too.
You will learn how to become your own powerlifting coach.
We'll work together to help you clearly define your goals and discuss your training history.
Once we have a clear picture of where you are and where you want to be, we’ll use this information to create a step by step training plan that will get you to your strength training goals as quickly and safely as possible.
Whether you choose to start training with our Wellington powerlifting coaches or not, you can be sure that you will leave with a better understanding of how to achieve your goals and how to better manage injuries.
You'll receive lifetime access to your individualised powerlifting plan, specifically built for achieving your strength goals. We'll refine this together, creating an optimal and sustainable program. Your plan includes:
Target sets, reps and other training metrics like RPE or RIR
Guidance on how to continually progress
Exercise video demonstrations
Descriptions for each exercise
Helpful coaching notes
Progress and habit tracking
Your workout plan is designed to be as easy to follow as possible. You'll know exactly what to do and how to do it.
Each week you'll go through personal training sessions at the gym, as well as your own weekly workouts you'll be responsible for completing.
These are important steps to ensure your continued progress, building your independence and confidence in your ability to train yourself.
Don't worry, your training plan makes it super simple to perform workouts on your own. We'll make sure your program is enjoyable and tailored to suit your lifestyle and needs - making sure you stay accountable, consistent, and motivated.
We’ll spend the first session or two assessing and improving your technique. Cues can differ from one individual to the next, depending on limb length, training experience, and baseline strength. We’ll also make sure that your technique and form on accessory movements are optimal to your training as well.
Our Wellington powerlifting coaches simplify the complicated process of programming and periodisation for you. We’ll take you through the best combination of hypertrophy, strength, peaking, tapering, and deload weeks for your unique body to help you manage exertion, fatigue, and ultimately express maximal strength in the most optimal way.
Mobility training focuses on enhancing joint range of motion, flexibility, and movement quality, allowing you to unlock and improve strength in postures and positions that you may have found previously inaccessible. This allows you to experiment with form tweaks that may be beneficial to your maximal strength output.
Having someone experienced with you for your first powerlifting competition can be really helpful. Our powerlifting coaches can guide you through weigh-ins, gear checks, and warm-ups, ensuring everything happens at the right time. Managing nutrition and staying hydrated throughout the long day is also essential. ONI powerlifting coaches can also assist in choosing the right weights for each lift.
The thought of doing a powerlifting comp can be both intriguing and daunting. I love encouraging lifters to get out there and give competing a go, and informing them that there is no strength prerequisite to getting started! I also run group ‘max out’ sessions with my clients as a gateway to max testing in a comp format!
I hope to offer people the tools to feel confident in their own ability to move correctly, use equipment effectively on their own, and to educate my clients the importance of moving their body for their longevity and well-being.
To me, building strength is about more than just the physical benefits - it's also about proving to yourself that you're capable of more than you thought, capable of doing things that are hard, and capable of improving yourself over time. If you want to discover what you're truly capable of, get in touch and I'll be happy to help!
Talk to us about your goals! We’d love to help. During this no-obligation consult, we’ll discuss your specific needs and how you can best start making progress towards your powerlifting goals.
